Climbing Monkey Cushion and Cashmere Throw Set
Our most exclusive cushion in handspun, handwoven silk is paired with the effortless elegance of a handwoven cashmere throw. The Climbing Monkey/Tree of Life motif is derived from the Tai Mouey people of NorthEastern Laos. In this textile, the monkey is climbing a coconut palm, considered the tree of life and thus a symbol of longevity.
Climbing Monkey Cushion-Hemp-
This cushion is handwoven by a team of female master weavers in Vientiane, Laos. Each cushion is hand crafted with the ancient Lao weaving technique of "discontinuous, supplementary weft patterning" and is a labour of love, artistry and time. It takes over 3 weeks to complete each textile. The preparation and dyeing of the silk is a meticulous “by hand” process- from cleaning the silk to hand dyeing, threading the loom and preparing the complex pattern system. The weaving itself takes 5 days or about 10 cm/day. A weaver needs to be trained for several years in order to have the skill set to hand weave these complex brocades.

Our cashmere throws are handwoven in Nepal by Nepalese artisans using time-honoured techniques and are a blend of soft and luxurious cashmere with wool added for strength and durability.

Care of Chalk Cashmere Throw: This is a one of a kind, handwoven product. Please treat with care and respect and it will endure. Spot clean, hand wash with cold water and air dry or dry clean. We recommend hand washing in cold water with a wool wash and air dry over a towel bar or line or on a flat surface. (never put in a dryer even for 5 or 10 minutes as the fibre will shrink).
