Handwoven in Laos by Lao Textiles, Carol Cassidy

Materials: 100% handwoven silk
This cushion is custom handwoven by a team of female master weavers in Vientiane, Laos. It is then sewn and finished at Yalla Trappan in Sweden, an organisation that supports immigrant women coming into Swedish society. We support and lift women in vulnerable communities and everything is made start-to-finish in a fair trade environment.
Each cushion is a labour of love, artistry and time. It takes over 2 weeks to produce each one. The preparation and dyeing of the silk is a meticulous “by hand” process- from cleaning the silk to hand dyeing and threading the loom with this intricate pattern. The weaving itself takes about 4 days. A weaver needs to be trained for several years in order to have the skill set to work with discontinuous supplementary weft patterning on a Lao floor loom.
The Brocade Stripe motif is based on a traditional Lao design that is stylized for a contemporary and modern look.

Colours: petrol, blue, orange, rust, teal. A contemporary palette with on trend colours for fall.
