Yak Throw - Espresso
Yak wool has been called the “new cashmere”. It’s warmer than merino, as soft as cashmere, and Yak fibres are sustainable alternatives to cashmere and wool — they are also 30% warmer than wool, and have a fine, smooth texture. Treat yourself to a truly luxurious, sustainable and ethically made blanket this winter.
Handwoven by artisans working with Noble Fibre in Nepal
Designed in collaboration with Kinship and Noble Fibre
The Yak wool is handwoven by female artisans skilled at hand spinning and weaving working with Monica Garry and Noble Fibre. The wool is ultra soft as the yarn is hand spun, hand woven and brushed for extra softness. The designs are based on traditional Himalayan blanket patterns from central Nepal.
We support and lift women in vulnerable communities and everything is made start-to-finish in a fair trade environment.
Yak wool has been a best-kept-secret of the nomadic tribes of the Himalayan region for centuries. Known as khullu in Tibet, it is valued for its warmth, breathability and durability. Yak is a long-haired bovine native to the Himalayas, Mongolia and Central Asia. Their wool is naturally soft and has evolved to protect them from the frigid temperatures of the region. As a clothing textile, it feels sumptuous, looks sublime and is 30 percent warmer than sheep’s wool. This all-natural material also has plenty of other benefits woven into its fibres including being odour-resistant and anti-microbial.

Care: This is a one of a kind, handwoven product. Please treat with care and respect and it will endure. Spot clean, hand wash with cold water and air dry or dry clean.
We recommend hand washing in cold water with a wool wash and air dry over a towel bar or line or on a flat surface. (never put in a dryer even for 5 or 10 minutes as the fibre will shrink).
